Menu Plan Monday - 19th November

Monday, November 19, 2007

Ooh, I like the pretty new banner! Yes I'm very late. I blame study. Believe it or not I'm actually doing some. But that's another post.

Our menu s not exactly thrilling, because I'm trying to empty the freezer still, and studying, which means Hubby is doing a lot of the cooking. But it's getting there slowly.

Monday - Meat Pie, mashed potato & sweet potato, peas & corn

Tuesday - Sausage Casserole

Wednesday - Honey Mustard Chicken and rice (I'm cheating and using a jar)

Thursday - Takeaway, to celebrate the end of the study year!

Friday - Chicken Burgers (I'm working so Hubby will be home alone with the kids)

Saturday - Traditional English Breakfast (sauasages, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, tomato yum!)

Sunday - Pot Roast (again I'm working so Hubby will likely do something spectacular with this one

So there you have it. Another week at Kin's House. For more menu's check out Organizing Junkie (and check out her pretty new look site!)

Menu Plan Monday - 12 November

Monday, November 12, 2007

I still have 10 meals of meat in the freezer, so I'll see how I go using that up.
Monday - Honey Soy Pork Steaks & salad
Tuesday - Turkey Rissoles
Wednesday - Slow Cooked marinated Roast Chicken with veggies (probably mash and steamed greens)
Thursday - Meat pie and vegetables
Friday - Sausage sizzle at the lagoon
Saturday - Scrambled eggs on toast
Sunday - Apricot Chicken
Mmm, that does sound good. Must remember to get the chicken out of the freezer today though. I am trying to empty the freezer and pantry for the Christmas mayhem that will be upon us in a few short weeks. I do love a good Christmas shop.

Have a lovely Monday and a delicious week.

Menu Plan Monday - 5 November

Monday, November 5, 2007

Yes, it's that time of the week again, where I realise I'm NOT the worlds greatest cook, or even organiser, as I fumble through the pantry, freezer and recipe books to see what concoctions I can come up with.

Fortunatley for you all, I only have to cook 4 night this week. So without further ado, here's what we're eating:

MONDAY - Sausage Sizzle at Hubby's club
TUESDAY - Melbourne Cup Lunch/Dinner (it's a "late lunch" at around 2pm, but with all the leftovers and nibblies, no need for tea - hooray)
WEDNESDAY - Chicken Tikka, rice & green veg
THURSDAY - Meat Pie, mashed potato & vegetables
FRIDAY - Pork fillets & salad
SATURDAY - Small party here, everyone's bringing a plate. Kids are having toasted cheese sandwiches.
SUNDAY - Roast Chicken & roast vegetables. Because we all need comfort food occasionally

See what I mean? Hardly inspirational. I'm experimenting with the Chicken Tikka recipe, so if it works I'll definitely post it for you all. If it doesn't work, we'll never say another word about it shall we? Great.

To sticky beak at what other people are eating and to share what you'll be eating this week, head on over to Laura's site. Have a good week!

Menu Plan Monday - 22 October

Monday, October 22, 2007
Wow, the month is nearly over. My freezer is bursting at the seams, so living out of it this week. I seem to be nesting, so hoping I can manage to actually cook something this week:

Monday - Chicken Kiev's, mashed potato & vegetables
Wednesday - Meat pie, mashed potato & vegetables
Thursday - Spaghetti Bolognaise & garlic bread
Friday - Cracker night at the local lagoon - picnic hamper of bread rolls, meat and salads (coleslaw etc)
Saturday - Slow cooker marinated roast chicken & roast vegetables
Sunday - Fish & Chips
As always, head on over to Laura's site to see more menu's.

Menu Plan Monday - 15 October

Monday, October 15, 2007

Happy 4th Birthday to M&M today. She's so excited and had a wonderful birthday yesterday. I'll post about that later this afternoon.

Did the shopping this morning and came in under budget again. The fridge & freezer are looking well stocked, in fact I found at least 22 meals of meat in the freezer this morning. I've even cut back on the meat I buy. On to the plan for this week:

Monday - Spaghetti Bolognaise, garlic bread and salad, with Apple Crumble and Ice Cream for dessert

Tuesday - Meat pie, mashed potato and steamed vegetables

Wednesday - Apricot Chicken

Thursday - Hubby & kids are eating at Grandma's

Friday - Sausages & coleslaw at the lagoon

Saturday - Roast Chicken & roast vegetables

Sunday - Roast chicken rolls (with leftover roast chicken)

A fairly average week this week, with all the swimming going on it's tough to keep up with the cooking sometimes.

Have a good week, and as always, sticky beak on what everyone else is eating at Laura's site

Menu Plan Monday - 8 October

Monday, October 8, 2007
This week's menu plan is made easier by the fact I'm working today and tomorrow, and mother-in-law is feeding the family. It cuts two days out I don't have to think about.

Monday - Mother-in-law
Tuesday - Mother-in-law
Wednesday - Vegetarian Nachos
Thursday - Apricot Chicken
Friday - Meat pie, mashed potato & vegetables
Saturday - Spaghetti Bolognaise
Sunday - Tomato macaroni cheese

While on the subject, Hubby has decided something in rice doesn't agree with him, so doesn't want to eat it anymore. Any ideas on what to serve in it's place for him? I love rice, and so do the kids, so it's not going to disappear from the menu, but it might need some variation for him.

Menu Plan Monday - 1 October

Monday, October 1, 2007

Where did the year go? I just can't keep up. And I'm still in denial that my big baby is turning 4 in 2 weeks. It's all just a figment of your imagination.

For this week we're kind of eating out of the freezer. It's a bit full so nothing new this week:
Monday - BBQ at the local club
Tuesday - Spaghetti Bolognaise
Wednesday - Lamb Souvlaki
Thursday - Quiche
Friday - Chicken Fried Rice
Saturday - Pot Roast
Sunday - Toasted Sandwiches
Best part? Grocery shopping came to $45. Nice!

Menu Plan Monday - 24 September

Monday, September 24, 2007

I decided this weekend our menu's have been a little dull and boring lately, time to spice them up a bit. I ducked down the shops for reduced meat, and for $20 got 2 meals of lamb fillets, 2 meals of pork medallions and a pot roast. $4 a meal - under target!

Now what to do with them?

Wednesday: Mince Pie

I'm actually inspired by that menu! Can't wait to get cooking!

Menu Plan Monday - 17 September

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Oops, a day late. You get that. Nothing exciting this week. Mostly what's in the cupboard and freezer and we'll see what else we can come up with. Chicken will feature heavily for the next few weeks after I got 6.5kg of chicken thigh's for $38 last week. Should do us for lots of meals!!!!

Tuesday - Meat Pie & Veg
Wednesday - Apricot Chicken
Thursday - Tomato Macaroni Cheese
Friday - Fish & Chips
Saturday - Chicken Fried Rice
Sunday - Toasted sandwiches

See, I told you it wasn't exciting. But my shopping list is short too. Mostly cause Hubby was home all weekend with the kids so was at the shops every day. Ah well, we'll have snacks in the house for a few days!

Menu Plan Monday - 10 September

Monday, September 10, 2007

I've got so much to write about this week. Honestly I could probably manage 2 posts a day and not get everything posted. I'll try and control myself though and save some for the weekend when I'm away.
As for the menu plan - it was easy this week, as I'm away on the weekend, and as per Hubby's request I don't menu plan those days, and he "wings it". I expect I'll get home to a lack of fish fingers in the freezer, but that's ok :-)
Monday - Lamb chops, mashed potato & veg
Tuesday - Chicken kebabs, rice & veg
Wednesday - Meat Pie, mashed potato & veg
Thursday - Chicken Burgers (or maybe Turkey Burgers)
I'm off to a uni weekend this weekend, and the place I'm staying includes meals, so that's one less thing to worry about.
As always, head over to Laura's blog for more menu's

Menu Plan Monday - 3 September

Monday, September 3, 2007

Well, I'm quite unorganised this week, believe it or not. But I managed to sit down for 10 minutes last night and throw something together.

Monday - BBQ
Tuesday - Meat Pie & vegetables
Wednesday - Chicken kebabs, rice & vegetables
Thursday - Crumbed Beef & vegetables
Friday - Tomato Macaroni Cheese
Saturday - Chicken burgers
Sunday - Lamb chops & vegetables

The best part of this? The grocery shopping this morning came to $25, the rest was on hand.

Menu Plan Monday - 27 August

Monday, August 27, 2007

We've been flat out this weekend, hence my lack of posts. I hope to redeem myself with a detailed account of what we've been up to with photos later this afternoon.

As for our menu plan, I've got loads of food in the freezer, so we're basically eating out of the freezer/pantry this week, which will keep the groceries low.

Monday: Apricot Chicken
Tuesday: Haystacks (vegetarian Nachos)
Wednesday: Veal Casserole
Thursday: Tomato Macaroni Cheese
Friday: Hamburgers
Saturday: Chicken Burgers
Sunday: Roast Chicken

Menu Plan Monday

Monday, August 20, 2007
I'm slightly disorganised this week, so going for some simple favourites.

Monday - Crumbed Chicken and veggies
Tuesday - Meat Pie and veggies
Wednesday - Lamb chops and veggies
Thursday - Fried Rice
Friday - Vegetarian Nachos
Saturday - Apricot Chicken

I'm only planning six meals this week as Hubby's cousin is in town and we'll be eating with them one night somewhere, I'll just pick up the menu plan from then.

As always, head on over to Organizing Junkie for more menu plans.

My recipe magazine habit

Thursday, August 16, 2007
There. I admitted it. I have a habit of collecting recipe magazines. It's a private shame, although one I happily share with my mother-in-law. Our habit is so bad we still must buy 3 magazines a month each, all the same.

What's worse is that I lose them almost immediately to Hubby. Yes, that's right, any cooking magazine or recipe book (a WHOLE other post) that gets brought into this house is comandeered almost immediately by the man of the house.

By the time I get the magazine back, he's already picked out some recipes he wants to try, and I go through and add a couple of easy ones to the menu plan for a few weeks. What's completely rediculous about this system, is that in 2-3 months, EVERY SINGLE RECIPE in these magazines will appear on the most awesome website in the world. Ok, maybe an exaggeration, but it's very cool. Taste.com combines all the recipes from about 7 magazines, and is easy to search and categorises the recipes, of course my favourite search is "budget".

There is a great mix of basic, on the table in 30 minutes recipes, along with more complex dinner party menus that take up to 3 days to prepare. Christmas, Easter and other holidays are not forgotten either, as well as simple recipes for the kids to help with. The print facility is awesome, and the pages I print (even in my recipe/display folder) last even longer than the torn pages from the dozens of magazines still lying about my house.

Breaking this habit is going to be hard, but the $10 a month I save will be worth it. Maybe I could treat myself to another magazine to replace it... it would be cheaper, I would still save money, and satisfy a need somewhere. I think I need to start buying Money Magazine again.

What's your guilty habit? I won't tell, honest. If you haven't noticed you can now email me directly if you don't feel like leaving a comment.

Meny Plan Monday

Monday, August 13, 2007

Well, the financial situation has seemingly abated, but it's a nice feeling to know that despite the low finances we've been able to eat well, and even have food in the house. I did the shopping this morning for the coming week, and apart for $5 I need to spend still on veggies later in the week for stir fry, I came in under $50 for the week. Not a bad effort.

Monday - Meat pie, mashed potato & peas & corn
Tuesday - Apricot Chicken Drumsticks, rice & beans
Wednesday - Sausages & potato salad
Thursday - Crumbed chicken & Potato salad
Friday - Dinner out (we're childless)
Saturday - Pork Stir Fry (childless again and the kids don't like it)
Sunday - Roast chicken, roast veggies and Apple crumble for dessert

I picked up some more great meat specials this week. 700g of Stir Fry Pork for $5, 6 chicken burger patties for $4, and 4 lamb chops for $3.50. The last two will go in the freezer for next week.

Menu Plan Monday

Monday, August 6, 2007

Well, here we are again. Things are still interesting around here. Lots of cheap meals with (unfortunately) not a lot of variety. But here we go:
Monday - BBQ - Sausages, Coleslaw, cake
Tuesday - Pork mince spaghetti bolognaise
Wednesday - Vegetarian Nachos
Thursday - Sausage Casserole
Friday - Cottage Rolls
Saturday - Roast Chicken
Sunday - Chicken Sandwiches
Told you it wasn't exactly exciting. I got some good meat specials last week that I'm still using up. Hopefully I'll manage some more this week.

Menu Plan Monday

Monday, July 30, 2007

Well, this is my first foray into Menu Plan Monday. Things are still a little haywire this week, but I'll see how far I get :)
Monday - Apricot Chicken
Tuesday - Macaroni Cheese
Wednesday - Veal & veggies
Thursday - Spaghetti Bolognaise
Friday - Pizza & Garlic Bread
Saturday - Leftovers
Sunday - Roast Chicken & roast veg
That looks good actually, and all I need to buy is some mince to get those on the table. Of course as it's been so long since I've done a decent grocery shop, there will be tons of top ups on things like flour, tomato sauce etc. But I guess that's what it's all about :)
